Jake (formerly Nube)

Back in June of 2008, we adopted a little pug from Atlanta Pet Rescue. While at your facility he was known as Nube; however, we renamed him Jake when we got home. Our Jake has a history much like Betty’s, so when I read her story my heart immediately went out to her. Jake came to you also with heartworms but survived and we are grateful to have him as a member of our family today. He has been on his heartworm preventative ever since he arrived home with us and gives us more love today that back then. He definitely has his spot in our family. Back then we had 2 other pugs and were quite familiar with the breed; that’s why taking Jake into our home was “a no brainer” for us. Just something that we felt we needed and wanted to do. But if Atlanta Pet Rescue had not been there and had not treated Jake we wouldn’t know the joy of having him as we do today. So you see it does my heart good to help Betty because I hope that she too will survive her heartworm treatment and will also find a wonderful home with a family that will love and care for her as we do our Jake. Since we adopted Jake, one of our pre Jake pugs (Buster), passed away with a collapsed trachea. He was 14 years old (soon to be 15), and we still miss him terribly today.

Ella’s happy home!

Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to write to give an update of my baby Shih Tzu Ella that I adopted from Atlanta Pet Rescue a couple of years ago. She will turn 3 years old in May and I adopted her when she was 9 to 10 months old. I have enclosed a recent picture of her and wanted all of you to know how much she is loved and how well she is doing.

I describe her as my Angel Dog She rarely barks, doesn’t tear up anything and is completely house broken (was house broken very shortly after she came home ). If there is such a thing as the perfect pet, she is it. At first she was very shy and it took some time for her to become comfortable but now she is the Queen of the House, very loved and a little spoiled ~ a lot. She has be sweetest nature that I have ever come across. I couldn’t think of life without her now

I just wanted to say thank you all for what you do at Atlanta Pet Rescue and for helping me find my precious baby!!!

Slash’s (formerly Huey) new friend!

Huey is now named Slash – like the musician. It’s a fitting name with how fast he can run around the house and yard. He just had cherry eye surgery again. Today he got the all clear and is cone free. I’m hoping to take him to play at Bed & Bark tomorrow because he misses his dog friends.

He is such a wonderful addition to our family. Everyone loves him and he loves everyone too. He’s turned out to be a great guard dog as an added bonus. He still loves to ride in the car and rolls over to let you pet his tummy. My parents have a farm outside of Rome, GA and Slash loves going there to see everything. While he is cautious with the horses (thankfully) he enjoys the cows and finds them interesting. My mother pets these cows and has named them all. This fall she took Slash on a leash into the pasture with the cows. We think the cows thought he was a funny looking calf. They all were curious and they smelled each other. Dr. Margerite said that you would like to see Slash with the cows. It’s really wonderful. Thanks again for loving our precious dog until we found each other.

Cybil finds her forever home!

Dear Ms.Laura -

Foster Mom Deb and I had a long talk over breakfast this AM. She described the plan to me and although I know APRA would make sure I was well-situated, I made the following considered, appropriate and reasonable points to her (in random order):

1 – Whereas I know I would thoroughly enjoy beautiful New England walks, it is quite frigid up there and I think I’d have to wear clothes year-round. But, I like being naked sometimes!So, this is a better climate for me.

2 – We have developed very enjoyable routines. I was a little slow on the ‘doing business inside versus outside thing’ but, I now get it and am a good dog. And you don’t mind when I swipe one of your slippers and take it with me into the laundry basket while you shower.

3 – I don’t ruin anything when you leave me at home (well, there was that one writing pen I chewed to bits….an exception, really!) and I’m perfectly content in my crate if you decide to keep me in there.

4 – You won’t find a happier dog to ride in the car with you (except that hound Junebug you told me about….the hot rod chick).

5 – I FEEL like you understand me. Plus the old saying is true: “to know me, is to love me”. Despite best efforts on everyone’s part, I can’t help that no one else decided to get to know me. But, you know me and therefore…………..!

Then I pulled my ears back, which shows off my little nubbin head and pretty eyes…and just stared at her…waiting for her response. Well, Ms Laura, she can be rather logical and articulate sometimes but, she had no viable counterpoints. (Maybe it helped that I’m wearing my collegiate cable knit sweater today….Ivy League, mind you)

So, my new name is Cybil Busch !!! (Whew….I had to work this deal, I thought she was never going to ask)

Lonely Hearts Club

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and one club you may not want to be a part of is the “Lonely Hearts Club.”

Presley, Harold and Gwen are all part of the club. WHY?

Because they have been with us for many months and are still waiting for their forever home. Each one of these great kitties are beautiful, have interesting personalities and are looking for love.

For the entire month of February, their adoption fee is reduced to $50. Not because they aren’t worth a whole lot more but because we want to help them find the loves of their lives.
In our opinion, all kitties are worth a million for the happiness they give in return.

Savannah (formerly Twinkie)

Dear Judy and everyone at APRA: We can hardly believe that we came home with Twinkie yesterday. She is now called Savannah. thank you so much for making the adoption day one to remember. Elisa was so kind and professional, and we were impressed with how she handled four families who all wanted Twinkie at the same time. She sensitively had to explain to other that they were not the chosen ones.>

Savannah is a delight. She is evidently both house broken and crate trained. She slept through the night with not even a murmur, and has not left Cedric’s side all day. We were heartbroken when we lost our Hunnie, but we seem to have adopted a clone! Savannah is sweet, calm and a love bug - all she wants to do is snuggle and love us.

Thank you for making us so happy, and you know we will continue to support you and your work.
